‘Art of Making’ Art Loan 2013

I’ve contributed a range of work for this exhibition at Bournemouth University, and will also be showing in the 3D bit of the temporary shows:

The Art of Making: Handcrafted and traditional skills – Art Loan Collection 2013
Reviving and recognising the relevance of traditional skills and crafts: This annual exhibition will be on show on the Talbot Campus in: Poole House and grounds; Kimmeridge House; and the Thomas Hardy Suite.

An exhibition of:
Pottery, ceramics, woodturning, willow, jewellery, sculpture in stone, lute-making, charcoal burning, photography, printmaking, drawing (pencil/charcoal), woven and stitched paper, textiles (silk, felt & wool).

This display of selected arts and crafts on campus during 2013 is to highlight the traditions of craftsmanship. It is to step back and understand that a thing of beauty or quality needs time to be made. It takes creative thinking, visualisation and practical skills to enable the traditions of hundreds of years of craft to be retained today and to build on those skills to develop new and contemporary ideas. We need to support these crafts to sustain them and enable the skills to survive in the future.

Help celebrate the art of ‘hand made’ and appreciate the skills and time taken in creating beautiful, individual arts and crafts by visiting the exhibitions which open from end of January 2013.

Three temporary exhibitions supporting the annual Art Loan are shown in the Atrium Art Gallery during 2013:

14 Feb – 6 April 2013: ‘The Art of Making: Handcrafted 2D works’
25 April – 29 June 2013: ‘The Art of Making: Handcrafted 3D works’
19 Sept – 7 Dec 2013: ‘The Art of Making: Textiles and texture’

Here’s a few shots of the larger pieces that were made for the exhibition…..
